For those of you that don't visit the Association of Professional Piercers website very often, there is some information I wanted to share with you. There was a FDA News Release on September 8, 2009, concerning products made by Care-Tech Laboratories. These are antimicrobial products some of you may be purchasing from online body jewelry stores to clean your piercings. One product is Satin Soap. Here's a clip of the release "The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today announced that St. Louis-based Care-Tech Laboratories Inc. and its principal officers, John C. Brereton and Sherry L. Brereton, have signed a consent decree, agreeing to stop the illegal manufacture, marketing, and distribution of over-the-counter (OTC) antimicrobial drugs used to treat and prevent infection." Some of these online stores are selling a 4 oz. bottle of Satin Soap for $6. You can get a 64 oz. bottle(that's 1/2 gallon) of antibacterial soap from these big box department stores for just over $3. I have been cleaning my piercings with this $3 bottle of antibacterial soap, and have never had an infection. There are 16 products listed in the article. There's an 800 number for consumers who wish to return any listed product in their possession. Here's one more small clip from the article " the FDA recommends that Care-Tech’s customers seek alternative products." If you wish to read the article, the link is above.
